CHAPTER EVENTS

Baton Rouge Alumni's 56th Annual Black and White Ball was held on Saturday, August 4, 2007. The strictly-formal black and white affair is by invitation only as each member of Baton Rouge Alumni hosts a table for his guests.
The 9th Annual Walter Banks Sr. Kappa Golf Klassic was held on Saturday, May 5, 2007 at Copper Mill Golf Club in Zachary, Louisiana. This year twenty seven teams comprised of almost one hundred players participated in this prestigous event, making it this one of largest events in its storied nine year history. The tournament’s sponsorship included Beverly Salvant Insurance Agency, Inc., Bronco Johnson State Farm Insurance Agency, Gerry Lane Chevrolet, The Darensbourg CPA Firm, LLC, The Forbes Family, Isle of Capri Casino and many other businesses loyal to the vision and ideals of Baton Rouge Alumni. Baton Rouge Alumni has teamed up with the Baton Rouge Education and Service Foundation, Inc. to promote the educational endeavors of youth in the Baton Rouge Community. The Baton Rouge Education and Service Foundation, Inc. was founded for the explicit purpose of working with members of the Baton Rouge Alumni Chapter to provide charitable and educational programs in the surrounding community. Baton Rouge Alumni has been a leader in community service since it’s inception in 1942. The Chapter’s Scholarship and Guide Right Programs have assisted young men in the Greater Baton Rouge area since the beginning of the Chapter. During the academic school year of 2005-2006, the Scholarship Program awarded three (3) one thousand-dollar scholarships to outstanding young men who are enrolled in the college or university of their choice. In addition, Baton Rouge Alumni has sponsored many young men to the summer camp at the Piney Woods Country Life School, in Piney Woods, Mississippi, at a cost of $655 per student. The Chapter’s goal is to triple the number of scholarship and camp sponsorship recipients in the near future. Contact: Kenneth Wright (kenneth.wright@hp.com)
Kappa Kamp The Piney Woods School is one of only four historically black boarding schools remaining in the United States. Since 1995 The Piney Woods School’s Summer Enrichment Camp, Kappa Kamp, has been providing students with the opportunity to acquire skills through intensive workshops. Students may choose from a number of enrichment camps and classes, as well as attend a variety of cultural and recreational activities, arts and crafts workshops, field trips and educational lectures. Work, fun and more all take place within a safe country setting located in the piney woods of Mississippi. The primary objectives of the enrichment camps are to:
  • Provide enrichment activities for students in grades 6 – 10.
  • Motivate students to seek higher levels of achievement.
  • Expose students to activities rich in cultural information and experience.
  • Develop students’ reading, writing and speaking skills while involved in each workshop.
  • Provide experiences that focus on science, technology and survival.
  • Provide a Christian atmosphere for human growth and development, character education and citizenship in an ethical environment.

The Baton Rouge Alumni Annual Picnic is a fun time for both the young and young at heart! Each year the members and their families come together to celebrate the successes of the previous year and to break bread as a family.
    C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference The goal of the CRWLC is to Prepare the Leaders of Tomorrow, whether that is in the fraternity, job, or community. The theme “Training for Leadership” had been used to describe the goals of the fraternity, but by 1957 the membership wanted the theme to be implemented. The implementation came from Grand Polemarch C. Rodger Wilson that a national program in the undergraduate interest includes a formalized school of leadership training, and hence The Charles Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference (CRWLC) was born. The items we discuss today at our meetings encompass the curriculum our brothers planned on being discussed. Plans were ultimately underway and the first undergraduate leadership conference occurred in 1961. At the 62nd Grand Chapter Meeting in Chicago in 1979, just a few weeks after the sudden and unexpected death of C. Rodger Wilson, the Undergraduate Leadership Conference was renamed the C. Rodger Wilson Leadership Conference in his honor.
Kappa Kaucus Legislative Day Baton Rouge Alumni celebrates Annual Louisiana Kappa Legislative Day during the month of May of each year at the Louisiana Capitol Building in Baton Rouge Alumni. The theme of last year’s event was “One Voice One State”. Contact: Terrence Lockett (tlockett13@yahoo.com)
